LaFosse has been creating paper sculpture since childhood and is internationally regarded as one of the world's leading authorities on origami. Trained as a biologist but working as an artist, he is best known for his origami animals, sea shells and plants made from his own handmade paper. LaFosse's artistic work has graced museums worldwide, including the Louvre; the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona; and Hangar 7 in Salzburg, Austria. His commercial art draws attention to upscale retail stores such as Hermes of Paris and Saks Fifth Avenue. Richard L. Alexander co-founded the Origamido Studio, a teaching center, gallery and design studio, with Michael G. LaFosse in 1996.
